Earth Day 2021: 12 Sustainable Products

On Earth Day 2021, Loggerhead Marinelife Center highlights twelve sustainable products from its Choice Matters collection.

It’s The Earth’s Birthday, Celebrate With Sustainable Items

Become Earth Day 2021 activated on Thursday, April 22! In its 51st year, organizations and stores everywhere demonstrate their commitment to environmental protection through events and sustainable shopping. Since its inception on April 22, 1970 the event has grown to involve more than 1 billion people in more than 193 countries. At Loggerhead Marinelife Center, our gift store is a semblance of Earth Day every day with our “Choice Matters” program and hand-picked responsible vendors.

While the retail industry is becoming more sustainably minded, it’s still a large source of waste, especially due to the amount of non-sustainable packaging used in the industry. To combat these issues, LMC developed its sustainable commerce program, Choice Matters, which helps customers identify more sustainably aligned items. The Center encourages its vendors to use minimal and sustainable packaging when providing items to LMC. Additionally, LMC’s retail team opts for locally sourced items when possible to reduce carbon emissions.

All purchases made through LMC’s retail outlets directly support sea turtle and ocean conservation, however the Choice Matters program takes this one step further. The sustainable commerce program focuses on highlighting items in one of three categories: Made In The USA, Reduced Waste, or Responsible Sourcing. This Earth Day, if you choose to purchase items, select ones that do you and the planet some good.

Stay On Trend For Earth Day 2021

Guests can use Loggerhead Marinelife Center’s Choice Matters program to identify sustainable items, such as its Tropical Lime Blue Jute Bucket Bag.

Tropic Lime Blue Jute Bucket Bag: Make a splash this summer with bags made from sustainable material. As we prepare for warm beach days, we’ve added this tropical jute bucket bag to our store. Similar to bamboo, jute is a plant fiber used to make burlap and cloth. Made from 100% jute, the bag is 100% biodegradable and made free of harmful dyes. This eco-friendly bucket bag has a flat round bottom and water resistant interior making it optimal for the beach or boat days. Use this bag as a replacement for single-use plastic bags or instead of purchasing bags made out of recycled plastic.

On Earth Day 2021, Loggerhead Marinelife Center encourages consumers to choose to upgrade their beauty routine with eco-friendly hair ties.

Clean It Up

Through its Choice Matters program, Loggerhead Marinelife Center offers products made in the U.S.A, such as P.F. Candle Co’s Amber & Moss Room & Linen Spray.

Amber & Moss Room & Linen Spray: There is not enough aromatherapy to relax us entirely in the COVID-19 era. However, a dose of Amber & Moss Room & Linen Spray is sure to lighten our emotional load. Spray the fine mist into the air with notes of sage, moss, and lavender for a quick refresher on your bedsheets, pillows, or couches. Even the most sensitive of skins won’t be affected by the phthalate-free premium fragrance oil. Made in the U.S.A, this pick reduces your carbon footprint considering it takes less transportation to ship and handle. Browse other sustainable selections from P.F. Candle Co. on our online store.

Through Loggerhead Marinelife Center’s Choice Matters program, consumers can purchase items like the Cora Ball, which helps combat plastic pollution.

Cora Ball. Every time we do laundry, our clothes shed tiny, unseen microfibers (including plastic), which wash down the drains of our washing machines and into our waterways. A new kind of laundry ball, the Cora Ball collects microfibers in its spirals. Inspired by the way coral filters the ocean, the Cora Ball makes microfibers in laundry visible by collecting them into a web of fibers, allowing you to easily remove them and prevent them from entering our waterways. Before these Cora Balls are out-of-stock again, purchase one to help save our ocean and marine life, like our sea turtle patients, that inhabits it. As part of our Choice Matters programs, these Cora Balls are made in the U.S.A. and help reduce waste.

An eco-friendly selection, Swedish Dish Cloths are available for eco-minded customers to purchase on Loggerhead Marinelife Center’s online store.

Summer Colors Sea Turtles Swedish Dish Cloth. For most households, the kitchen and bathroom pose the most problems for sustainability. From paper towels to plastic bags to plastic wrap, a typical kitchen tends to produce a lost of waste. This Earth Day 2021, help improve the health of our planet by vowing to reduce waste in your kitchen. These super absorbent Swedish Dish Cloths outperform paper towels and sponges. When moistened, they soak up any mess and leave a squeaky clean surface behind. Wash dishes, wipe your counters, polish chrome, dust and even shine your mirrors with these cloths. An eco-friendly selection, these cloths are biodegradable breaking down within six weeks in a home compost.

Keep It Fresh

On Earth Day 2021, Loggerhead Marinelife Center challenges consumers to ditch single-use plastic water bottles and commit to more sustainable solutions.

Palm Springs SWIG Bottle: Being neighbors to Palm Beach, we can’t help but love this 20 oz. Monstera leaf inspired water bottle. Not only does the design speak to our locale, but to the pandemic times as we get more active and reacquainted with nature. Whether you’re walking along the Juno Beach shorelines or hiking mountainous trails, use this steel, plastic-free water bottle that keeps drinks cold for up to 24 hours and hot up to 12 hours. Also, designed to be dishwasher safe with a BPA-free screw on cap. This Earth Day 2021, commit to ditching single-use plastics and reducing your waste.

In honor of Earth Day 2021, Loggerhead Marinelife Center highlights its sustainable kitchen items like bees wax wraps.

Z Wraps: Spruce up your kitchen accessories and preserve leftovers with Z Wraps! Instead of wasteful saran wrap, opt for the more colorful and eco-cognizant food wraps, which are soft, pliable, and simple to use. Just use the gentle warmth of your hands to peel and adhere a tight seal over containers. Z Wraps are reusable when you wash with cool water, mild soap, and leave to air dry. One of these wraps can be washed and reused upwards of 100 times. That means one wrap can prevent 1000 pieces of plastic from ending up in the trash – keeping them out of landfills and our oceans.

To combat plastic waste on Earth Day 2021, Loggerhead Marinelife Center is offering stainless steel and bamboo drinking straws in its store and online store.

Double Stainless Steel Straw Set: The popularity of the stainless steel straw has helped consumers tackle the plastic waste movement. If you haven’t one in your kitchen drawer just yet, this Earth Day 2021 is your opportunity to purchase one. Every year, eight million tons of plastic enters our oceans and never fully biodegrades. And while straws are just one part of the equation, they easily contribute to this massively growing pollutant. This sustainable straw set comes with two reusable straws and one large straw cleaning brush, as well as one straw carrying case to keep everything organized. Both the stainless steel straw and cleaning brush are durable, dishwasher safe, and environmentally friendly. However, its recommended for cold and room temperature beverages only.

In an effort to reduce single-use waste, Loggerhead Marinelife Center encourages the public to use sustainable items in their home.

Three In One Classic Set. Unfortunately, as a result of the pandemic, single-use food containers and togo packaging have become more of a concern. To help compact our planet’s waste problem, choose to use sustainable food containers, such as our stainless steel three in one classic set. A three-piece nesting lunch box, the classic set makes it easy to pack a variety of foods while keeping them separated. Since the set is modular, you can remove the snack container and use it separately. Because it does not contain plastic, the lunchbox is free of all estrogen-mimicking chemicals, such as bisphenol-A (BPA), phthalates, and bisphenol-S (BPS). On Earth Day 2021, make a resolution to make five sustainable swaps in your kitchen.

Instead of using single-use items, Loggerhead Marinelife Center encourages consumers to choose reusable items.

Sea Turtle Lunch Bag. Although many of us are still working from home, more and more people are returning back to work and school. Instead of using a plastic bag or paper bag, opt for our organic cotton bag to carry your lunch. Sewn from GOTS-certified organic cotton, this reusable bag can be used as a sturdy lunch, snack or produce bag. Use the sea turtle design as a conversation starter to discuss environmental issues with those around you. Remind those interested that sea turtles often mistake plastic bags for food causing them to ingest the plastic bag and become ill or suffocated. Encourage others to reduce their own waste and opt for more sustainable personal-use items.

Earth Day 2021 Kids’ Corner

Loggerhead Marinelife Center offers a selection of educational kids games, including its Animals At Risk – Ecological Memory Game.

Ecological Memory Game: On Earth Day 2021, introduce your little ones to conservation. The premise of the game calls for participants to help each baby animal find their parents and learn about their habitats with the 32 cards given to them. Using this game to teach your child about conservation will help them understand the importance of protecting endangered and threatened animals like our sea turtle patients. Made with 100% recyclable materials and plastic-free, this game is safe for children and the environment. Even the clear film that is used to protect the box is derived from sugar cane and it is biodegradable.
